ChronoPoints recently scanned the House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar near Stuart. The House of Refuge is the oldest standing structure in Martin County. This is also the only remaining House of Refuge of the 11 constructed along Florida’s Atlantic coast during the latter part of the 19th Century. Constructed by the United States Life-Saving Service, these sites served to assist shipwreck survivors who had made it to land. We will be posting a project page complete with laser scan images shortly.
We would like to thank the House of Refuge for their assistance while scanning their museum.
